SportSub Interior Pictures

This picture gives you a much better look at the Auto-Hover control panel. In the center is the joystick for controlling the main thrusters. The grey switch on the top of the joystick handle provides control of the vertical thrusters, and some input for the Depth Control System (DCS). The display at the bottom left is for the Depth Control System (DCS) and, depending on the operating mode you are in, shows current depth or target depth. Below that display are two LEDs that tell you if the vertical thrusters are powering you up or down. To the right of the DCS Display is the Sonar display which indicates your distance from the bottom, or from something ahead of you, depending on your current mode. The switch above the Sonar display is the Sonar Power switch. Above that switch you can see two yellow arrows, and two more on the other side of the joystick. Those LEDs indicate which direction your main thrusters are running. Moving around the control panel counter clockwise from the right side arrow LEDs, the next switch above the Sonar Power switch is the Sonar View switch where you select whether you want the sonar to view ahead or below you. On the top right corner is the Main Power switch for the main motors. This switch powers on the control panel, but not the DCS. In the center above the joystick you can see some red and yellow bars. These are the battery strength indicators, and also provide diagnostic information about the electrical system. The top left switch is the Electronic Buoyancy Control (EBC) system switch that enables you to select between Off, Automatic mode and Manual mode. Whenever the sub is in the water the EBC switch needs to be set to Automatic. Below the EBC switch is the DCS power switch. This switch powers up the DCS part of the control panel. The last switch, below the arrow LEDs on the left side, is the DCS mode selector switch. The three available modes are: Manual, where the thumb switch directly controls the vertical thrusters; Auto-Hover, where the thumb switch still controls the vertical thrusters, but when you reach your desired depth and release the thumb switch, the DCS computer takes over and holds you at that depth, until you use the thumb switch to go to a new depth; and Auto-Target, which is an optional add-on mode that enables you to select a target depth, using the thumb switch, and once that target depth is set, the sub will automatically ascend or descend, at less than 1 foot per second. Once the target depth is reached, the sub stops and holds that depth.
