SportSubs are now available as kits, making owning your own submarine affordable enough that it can finally become a reality!

To keep the cost low and retain its seat-of-the-pants attitude, SportSub kits come standard with only the key necessities; the Fly-By-Wire Joystick, Electronic Buoyancy Control, and Electrical Systems Monitor, and of course, they are unassembled.

The idea was to offer a kit that wasn't too difficult to build, and yet would be affordable. Most components on SportSubs are built off the sub as assemblies, and then attached to the sub as a finished assembly. In the kit, all the complicated assemblies are pre-built. The hull will arrive marked for drilling for the assemblies, and the assemblies will have been pre-fit. In addition, the more difficult assemblies will arrive already attached to the sub so you can easily see where everything goes and how it is attached, connected, etc. so all you have to do is make the connections, apply the sealant and bolt the assemblies on the hull. For example, the control panel is completed and ready to install. The windows are fit and ready to install. The hoses however come with the brass fittings and drawings showing how to put it together.

Well, actually, there is a bit more to it than that! You will need to remove all the parts so the hull can be body worked and painted (send us pictures of your cool paint schemes). You will need to get steel to use as ballast and lay it on the floor of the sub, and preferably, fiberglass it in. Then you can start attaching the assemblies and sealing them in. You will need to purchase 2 RV batteries to power your sub. You will also need to purchase 2 - 80cuft scuba tanks, 3 scuba regulators, and 2 pressure gauges for your sub's air supply. The hoses and lines for connecting the air system are included in your kit. Once you are ready to hit the water, STOP, and call us to make sure everything is ready! Seriously, we can talk you through the checks to make sure you are ready for your in-water test. At this point you will also need a scuba dive computer. And when you are all finished, send us more pictures.

If you get stuck, we are available by phone or email to talk you through.

A SportSub II kit is $36995.00 and a SportSub III kit is $38995.00

All SportSub models put safety first and come equipped with numerous backup systems. Please read our SportSub Technologies document for a more complete explanation of many of the SportSub’s systems and features.
