SportSub II is the smallest,
lightest, fastest, and least expensive of the SportSub
models. It seats two people in a side-by-side
configuration, which is ideal for sharing the dive
experience with a friend or for pilot training. Its
lightweight and lean dimensions also make it desirable
for carrying aboard a yacht or boat if deck space and
davit capacity are at a premium. The smaller cockpit air
volume of SportSub II means that it will not consume as
much of its air supply for buoyancy adjustments. This
gives the two-seater as much dive range as the larger
three-seat models, with just over half the air
consumption.
To keep the cost low and retain its
seat-of-the-pants attitude, the SportSub II comes
standard with only the basic necessities; the Fly-By-Wire
Joystick, Electronic Buoyancy Control, and Electrical
Systems Monitor. It can, however, be dressed up with many
of the options that make SportSub operation more refined. Lights,
SONAR, Ultrasonic Communications, and Expanded Air Supply
systems can all be added. Ideally these options are
specified at the time of manufacture but it is possible
to retrofit a basic model with any options.
All SportSub models put safety first
and come equipped with numerous backup systems. Please
read our SportSub Technologies document for a more
complete explanation of many of the SportSubs
systems and features.
